Komune opens its door in Ovolo Southside, the first remodelled industrial building turned boutique hotel in Hong Kong.
The restaurant’s name is derived from the Japanese slang term ‘ko-mu-ne’, loosely translating to mean ‘crowded’ or ‘full house’.
The venue reinvents conventional understandings of shared spaces by cutting open a floor slab and creating a duplex locale with a sweeping garden terrace which can accommodate over 60 guests and boasts sweeping views of southside’s greenery and glimpses of the ocean.
International hospitality bureau Cocktail Professor will make their Hong Kong debut at Komune with a list of inventive bespoke beverages. An extensive tea library will also be on offer from cult brand Pukka Herbs, and their coffee will be from boutique Australian roaster Pablo & Rusty’s.
Komune has also partnered up with Michelin-experienced chef Alvaro Torres, aka El Palanca, of Hong Kong-infused South American-flavoured culinary fame. Highlights to look out for include Chorizo and Jamon Airbags, and Grilled Tender Octopus & Katsuobushi Surfing on a Bone Marrow (how’s that for a dish name!). Over 30 per cent of their menu is also vegetarian or vegan.
